When I arrived at my office yesterday, I noticed a beautiful package on my desk.

I was surprised, it was not a special occasion and I didn’t expect any gift.

I even thought it was not meant for me, but I checked my emails and read a message from a colleague saying: open the box. It contained a cornucopia of forgotten feelings and future dreams: it was a pair of hand knitted slippers.

In fact, every time my colleague and I meet at the office, we share pictures and stories about her mother and her knitting skills. I am not very good at knitting; I am not a precise person and most of my handmade products are quite simple. I stopped knitting years ago and decided to resume it during the lockdown. I am almost a beginner, and slippers seem to be quite easy to knit.

So yesterday I received a new pair. They reminded me of my mother, who sometimes used to knit with some leftover yarn and give me her handwork, saying: ‘it’s for you’. At that time, I happened to think I didn’t like the color, or the shape, but now they have become precious treasures for me.

The slippers made me think about my past, they reminded me that I deeply miss my mother and the unique way a mother makes you feel protected, loved and cared for.

They showed me my present: sharing personal passions with a nice colleague gives positive energy and strengthens human bonds.

They gave me a look on my future: I can learn something new; I can improve my knitting skills and my passions; I am becoming a better person.
